Darien resident Matthew Barket McEvoy died on Thursday, March 31.

A Darien High School student, McEvoy played on the varsity lacrosse team, and enjoyed mountain biking, skiing, and had an interest in cars - both old and new.

McEvoy spent his summers playing tennis, sailing and swimming at the Tokeneke Club, according to his family. As he got older, he was a member of the Express North Lacrosse team, a lifeguard, and spent day trips mountain biking with friends.

His family described him as “a driven, goal-oriented, and strong academic student who found the mandarin language to come fairly easy to him when he first took the class at Pear Tree Point School.”

McEvoy planned to pursue a career where he could combine his passion for mountain biking and strength in speaking mandarin, including looking at colleges to major in Chinese Studies or international business that was also in close proximity to the mountains.

He is survived by his parents, Colin and Tracy, his brother Campbell, sister Grayson, grandmothers Nancy Turnbull and Susi McEvoy, aunt Danielle Eidman (Joe), uncles Adrian Turnbull (Karen) and Sean McEvoy (Lisa), cousins Austin and Aubrey Turnbull, Lakin and Kaelyn McEvoy, Daniel Lappa (Christina) and Kelsey Natola (Patrick). He is predeceased by his grandfather, Terence Turnbull.

Services for McEvoy have been scheduled for 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 7 at the Norton Presbyterian Church on Post Road in Darien.
